You might wonder why one would want to grow so many different varieties of epimedium and mahonia. But sometimes a gardener drinks wine and shops online and the sweet call of Berberidaceae must be answered. The front garden is low-water, featuring agave, dasylirion, hot colored perennials, mahonia, and more epimedium than a normal person should grow. The back garden is a tropical paradise featuring grasses, cannas, an obscene amount of lilies, and a Hawaiian shade pavilion created by Bamboo Craftsman. There are three rain gardens on the property and a judicious amount of natives mixed throughout. For anyone who wonders if the various mahonia cultivars are that different, the answer is probably 'no' but you can decide for yourself.
