Villa Catalana Gardens
Villa Catalana Gardens
The garden areas include several themes: desert boulder, tropical, herb, vegetable, moat, traditional border, and succulent border. Three ponds, a garden folly, stone grape arbors, stone walls, Laburnum allee, hermitage, and 12th-century-inspired Romanesque stone house complete the garden. A tropical plant conservatory doubles as our wine tasting room. Several years ago we added a broken concrete raised bed with olive and cork bark oak trees and a homemade pizza oven. The latest addition is a Moorish influenced ermita inspired by Portugal’s Pena Palace in Sentra. There is a grotto complete with an iron dragon guard. Rare Plant Research will be open as will the winery, Villa Catalana Cellars for wine tasting and lunch. Rare Plant Research specializes in olive trees, Eucomis, Cannas, hardy amaryllis and rare and unusual hardy and tropical plants. Pots are also available for sale, including our unusual homemade “art” containers. Our gardens and winery (but not the nursery) are also open year around on Saturdays from 1 pm to 4 pm. We also host a garden opera dinner and opera picnics events in the summer. We were honored to host the evening soiree for the Hardy Plant Study Weekend in 2025.
