We pack a lot into our small urban space. Carpet roses and drought-tolerant plants fill the hellstrip, while a persimmon tree and mixed border line the driveway. The grass In front has been replaced with a zigzag pathway along a border with small fountains and bonsai. In the back, a copper fence and glass art lead to the first of several rooms. Dozens of potted shrubs create privacy, and the sound of water permeates the area. The next room is bordered by an old grapevine and includes a small pond, bonsai, Chinese penjing, and an Asian feel. Glass art and copper structures created by us enliven the spaces. At the rear is a shade garden under apricot and apple trees which evolved from a wild cottage feel to a path of Chinese plants (anything of the species delavayi). A bonsai work area completes the space. This is a small-scale garden, but with many surprises.
