Sherry Sheng Garden
This 22-year-old garden was made from scratch. Situated on one-third of an acre that borders the Willamette River, this garden features a variety of trees, shrubs, and perennials. Guests may wander the garden paths to discover Sherry’s delight in metal art, whimsy, and water features. Along the paths are places to sit and soak in views of various garden beds and the river. A deck off the second story affords a bird’s-eye view while one just above the river reveals the vertical layers of the hillside. Sherry has gone through phases of loving tender exotics, small conifers, variegated leaves, and colorful flowers. But now, as she puts it, she has “matured” to loving a garden that she alone can sustain year-round. Current goals blend sustainability with aesthetics and include pleasing vignettes, simplified maintenance, and food production for pollinators and humans. About half of the garden is accessible; the rest requires navigating steps.
