This suburban yard features both native species and ornamental cultivars fully integrated with one another to form a cohesive whole. With our nearly quarter-acre grounds, we've taken our garden upward including unique raised beds, berms (mounds), gabion walls that create three garden tiers, handbuilt metal trellises that can be moved from place to place as needed, and a custom-built arbor. As much a work of unified art as it is a garden, all garden rooms work together. People find delight in fountains, art, edible plants, herbs, ferns, and dwarf trees.Main areas include:• An open-forest-like front yard featuring ferns, a coast redwood, and some native forest plants;• A transition area with low-growing and dwarf trees surrounded by numerous native plants;• A lawn/meadow that acts as an exercise area for dogs. Trees with edibles border this lawn area, and a gravel walking path circles it.• The "Kitchen Garden" with raised beds, edibles, herbs, and plants in flowerpots, some of which include native and non-native wetland plants.Places to sit accompany the various garden rooms. Artful use of recycled items and local art can be found throughout. Plantings to attract pollinators and beneficial insects abound. The entire garden provides a sense of peace.
