PowellsWood is a three-acre pleasure garden in Federal Way, tucked beside 35 acres of native successional forest. Sculpted hedges create a series of distinct garden rooms showcasing over 1,000 varieties of trees, shrubs, and perennials. Highlights include an intimate Entry Garden with Japanese maples and birdbaths; fern and rhododendron borders in cool shades of green; a Perennial Border built around a recirculating stream and pond with a footbridge; and a Shade Garden with an arbor draped in clematis and climbing roses. Visitors can also enjoy the Woodland Garden’s fern mound and ravine overlook, the Spring Garden’s cherry-blossom lawn and striking conifers and maples, and the bold, colorful House Garden near the patio, with the Garden Room offering history, programs, and volunteer information.
