Our large garden is a sloped peninsula surrounded by forest. We've used logs, timbers, rocks, blocks, and tree rings for terracing. The south and west slopes host drought tolerant plants such as Rhamnus, Grevillea, Ceanothus, Arctostaphylos, Cistus, Leptospermum, and rock garden plants. The north slope features fruits and berries, many plants in the witch-hazel family, conifers, and natives. Hebes are scattered everywhere. We have completed two quadrants of the raised bed vegetable garden, with two more to go. We also hope to build a toolshed and greenhouse this year if we can manage to beat back the blackberries and big leaf maple suckers. Paths are sloped with no handrails, so sure-footedness is a plus.
