Peter Eastman and Dayrol Griffin Garden

Come visit this 30 year old urban garden in the heart of the North Mississippi Historic District of Portland. The garden surrounds our 1922 Bungalow and spills into the adjacent lot. Mature Cedars, Redwoods and Aspens create a shady canopy for our woodland garden filled with daphne, hellebores, hostas, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, and more. Our sunnier areas are devoted to Tropicals, Roses, and perennials. Large mature windmill palms and bamboo groves form the backdrop for colorful beds brimming with bananas, cannas, abutilons, gingers, dahlias, and more. 10′ metal Obelisks filled with climbing roses are surrounded by colorful beds of summer perennials such as monarda, hemerocallis, salvias, lilies, peonies, and fuchsias. Note: We recently removed a 20′ tall Arborvitae Hedge that surrounded the garden. This has really changed the feel and dynamic of the garden. We are excited to have more sunlight and a more “open feel” to the neighborhood. This renovation also included a new 100′ long sunny bed on the south (street) side of our fence. Come see how this new planting progresses!
