My small backyard garden within a 50’x100’ lot in inner Northeast Portland has been in major transition the past 3 years. It has been a lesson of growth and scale within a small garden area. Adding climate change into the mix has required a rethink of plant selection, placement, and garden use. While trying to retain as many of my core plants as possible I have made tough decisions to remove several major plants due to unanticipated mature size and incompatibility with summer temperatures and light. While I have begun replanting the space there are blank spots yet within the garden. Join me in re-imagining this next phase of my garden.
