Our garden may be better than ever thanks to all that time spent sequestering—though it’s still very much a work in progress. A few “embarrassing bits” remain on purpose (to encourage beginners to keep going!), but we’ve tackled several minorly major—or maybe majorly minor—projects in the past year: a spontaneous new planting bed (because why not dig up more grass?), a refresh of a small section of the large parking strip, and finally the long-awaited death of the last stubborn patch of ivy.
It’s been a 33-year journey from rhodies, azaleas, and ivy to what you see today. With more time to devote to our double lot, the projects keep coming and the garden is never truly finished—especially since much of the action happens on an incline, with the house and garden perched about 12 feet above street level. Depending on when you visit, you might find inspiring rhodies, towering tomatoes, or showy dahlias, all punctuated with art, whimsy, and a sense of playful experimentation.
