This large private sloping garden backs to a wooded ravine with a backdrop of towering Douglas fir trees. The front yard features a pond, manzanitas, deer proof plants and dwarf conifers. Below the house, terraced gardens feature basalt boulder walls, and patios and stairs of natural stone and concrete. There is no lawn here. Rather, a diverse collection of plant treasures includes more than 100 rhododendrons, ornamental trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, vines and ground-covers. Cedar chip paths gently crisscross the slope and lead to the greenhouse and seating areas. As the grade steepens, plants give way to the unfenced, untamed and inaccessible creek below where privacy and wildlife reign.
