Kinzey-Morby Garden
Enjoy our garden as pathways circle the home through a mix of perennials and conifers. The garden can be viewed from our patio, front and back decks, benches, and an observation deck on the back hill. Dian and Jack have gardened here for 30 years and are delighted to welcome HPSO guests to this oasis on one-third of an acre.
Begin in the driveway with a contorted mulberry, old and new-world roses, an espalier apple, vegetables, blueberries, and a hillside of strawberries, grasses, peonies, columbine, daffodils, and more. Follow the path past rhododendrons and through a gate beneath a climbing rose into a contemplative shade garden featuring a palm, magnolia, miniature cedar and cypress, ferns, hostas, Podophyllum ‘Spotty Dotty,’ iris, and a quiet bench. Continue to the tier garden and colored gravel area, with clematis on the swing structure, climbing hydrangea, and more roses. Along the rock wall, notice conifers, heather, and peonies, plus miniature cedar, clumping bamboo, and a conifer bed with notable specimens such as Abies koreana ‘Ice Breaker,’ Bald Cypress, ‘Chief Joseph,’ and various pines. A trail with natives—Oregon grape, snowberry, vine maple, alder, Oregon ash, and hawthorn—leads to the observation deck. Larger beds beyond feature poppies, lilies, Joe-Pye weed, clematis, and more. End by relaxing on the patio or deck beside a small water feature, and notice the Japanese black pine in a pot.
