The 25th anniversary of our garden seems like a good reason to share it. Our rural acreage came with a jungle of native trees and plants that we have blended with our favorite cultivars over the years. However, gardening on a northwest facing hillside is not for the faint of heart! Interspersed along the paths you will find paperbark and Japanese maple, parrotia, stewartia, dogwood, rhododendrons, and kalmias. We have an eclectic collection of shade loving plants and perennials. A fenced area (the vegetable gulag) protects our edibles from the resident deer. The garden continues to evolve. Karen believes gardening is about growing food, while Barry's version is shrubs, trees, and ornamentals. Year-round color, texture, and interest are important features we strive for in our garden.
