Joanne Turner Garden

Our grounds are developing slowly. Sloping down from the gate, we have 3 acres which used to be cow pasture, poorly graded and uneven (wear sensible shoes). The upper acre’s beds have been mostly planted. The middle acre has been roughly laid out and planting has begun. The lowest acre, bordered by a creek, will probably remain wild. Near the house we have a sunny perennial border and last year began a small veggie garden. I want most of our property to be a woodland garden, but don’t yet have much shade. Temporary protection for my treasures comes from pallets, shade cloth, lattice, etc. We have over 100 different rhododendrons, lots of ferns, hellebores, daffodils, crocosmia, dahlias, fuchsias, and interesting trees (oxydendron, stewartia, lace bark pine, ‘Esk Sunset’ maple, star magnolia, dogwoods) along with natives. The Hodges & Craven gardens, also in Kelso, are open today.

No open dates scheduled yet.
