Hummingbird Hill

Hummingbird Hill

Hummingbird Hill, created by Bob Barca, is a 2/3 acre, ten-year-old, collector’s garden located on Whidbey Island. The Mediterranean-style design features gardens mulched often with gravel, many raised stone beds, garden walls, seven unique water features, and several sitting areas. Drought-tolerant plants that provide interest all year and attract birds are the focus. There is a large collection of grevilleas, arctostaphylos, and kniphofias. Other genera include adenocarpus, agave, arbutus, callistemon, carpenteria, ceanothus, cistus, embothrium, fremontodendron, fuchsia, hakea, leptospermum, lyonothamnus, and yucca. Aloe, leucadendron, leucospermum, banksia, anigozanthos, and the more tender grevilleas are grown in pots and moved to the conservatory for the winter. All these plants reflect the various Mediterranean climates of the world, especially Australia. In addition there is a bog garden, a raised cactus bed and a bird stream mentioned above. Open by appointment all year.
