This large, informal garden has been in progress for 16 years. Trees include a large catalpa, an Antarctic beech, a katsura, paulownias, mimosas and magnolias along with lilacs, mock oranges, deutzias, and a michaela. Fences, arbors and trellises define rooms and offer growing space for vines (clematis, hops, wisteria and jasmine). Sunny beds are filled with echinacea, asters, iris and daylilies. Shady areas grow fuchsia, hostas, hydrangeas, ferns and more. Purple and pink flowers predominate. I also use dark or burgundy foliage plants. I have a small orchard, cane-berries, and a vegetable garden plus a greenhouse where I start most of my vegetables and annual bedding plants. Since I am not setting an open date this year things may be more casual than last year, and I would be happy to have you visit.
