We moved to this large corner "Heights Neighborhood" Vancouver lot from NE Portland in 2014. We inherited 32 azaleas and 15 rhododendrons! Most of them are gone now, as well as the front lawn. The street side is now a Mediterranean-style garden which uses much less water than previous plantings. There is a winding crushed rock path to the fenced back yard which was left in lawn for the multiple grandchildren who visit. The back garden is surrounded by a Douglas Fir, pink Dogwood, a messy Birch tree, and a variegated Harlequin Glory Bower and a jumble of perennials in between with the lawn getting progressively narrower as time elapses. We have an awning over our covered deck where we enjoy evenings watching the birds back here, especially the hummingbirds fight over their plant territories. So far our biggest pests are rabbits and snails, but there have now been a doe and buck siting nearby. Oh, boy...
