Our small urban garden is an oasis in the heart of the city. For a small space, we have amassed quite a range of perreniels, trees and shrubs. We were fortunate to have participated in the 2015 Study Weekend Open Gardens where we learned that we have a knack for layering, combining texture and using color to create flow and unity throughout the garden. Dennis' woodworking and design expertise has come in handy for building arbors, decks, planters, fences and unique garden structures.
The garden is not without its challenges. In 2017 we lost a dwarf Black Locust leaving an opportunity to recreate a sunny bed. A moisture problem in the basement resulted in digging drain fields and window wells in well established beds up close to the house. Whatever the problem, there's always the thrill of something new to inspire us (not spoken by the person who had to do the digging!).
