Chris Gauger Garden

As with most gardens, mine is ever-changing. The garden has evolved over the past 30 years from mostly sun, to mostly shade. I’ve wanted to create garden “rooms” where I can sit, entertain, watch birds or just enjoy the view. All lawn has been eliminated in favor of perennials, trees and shrubs. I’ve put in pathways on the front, back and side sections of the yard. I love using native plants, but am not disciplined enough to eschew non-natives. I plant primarily for leaf color, shape and interest. There are definitely flowering plants, but they’re not my main focus. I love ground covers too, and follow a mostly “no bare ground” philosophy.
