Explore the world in a single city lot through the plants in a 15-year-old garden. Find a collector's garden with emphasis on Southern Hemisphere natives - Chilean eucryphias and azaras, South African perennials, hardy New Zealand hebes and an Australian snow gum. This gave rise to the garden's name (an allusion to the Tropic of Capricorn and the abundance of plants from south of there). There are numerous ornamental trees - four stewartia species, six crape myrtle cultivars - and many unusual woody plants from east Asia including Euscaphis japonica, Decaisnea fargesii, Poliothyrsis sinensis, Melliodendron xylocarpum, Podocarpus macrophyllus, Disanthus cercidifolius, Euptelea pleiosperma and Bretschneidera sinensis. Early summer is a nice time to visit as the garden is weighted with flowering plants including those in a new bed installed in 2016. Keep an eye out for the hummingbirds attracted to the many tubular blooms throughout the garden. Bumblebees love the dieramas!
