When I purchased my home in 1990, I knew the back hillside garden (all blackberries!) would be tricky. My 1941 ranch was sited at the foot of a steep slope that once belonged to the 100-year old home above. Luckily, historic rock walls and staircases remained.
With initial inspiration from Linda Engstrom, I recently asked Erin Ray (designer) and Leslie Buettner (gardener) for help. Together, we simplified the plant selection, punched up the palette and streamlined maintenance. Today, the garden includes two private decks as well as several south facing beds with a mix of small trees, conifers, flowering shrubs, perennials, dahlias, roses, hardy fuchsias and a few annuals for filler and fun.
Please stop by; I so enjoy sharing my secret garden!
